When this model came out, you could find it in both 5 and 7 seating configurations. Being that this model had been around for more than a decade with only one generation, it saw plenty of change. Some of the standout features are heated seats, heated steering wheel, and even rear doors that can open up to 90-degrees.
In its first few years, the trims were the SE, SXT, and R/T. The SE was powered by a 2.4L I4, while the other two trims were powered by a 3.5L V6. The best engine from this time would be the 2.4L I4, having an EPA rated 21 MPG combined.
For the 2011 model, the lineup saw its first change. The Express, and Mainstreet trims replace the SE, and SXT trims. Two other trims were added, these with the Crew, and Lux trims. This year also added two new infotainment screens, these were either 4.3, or 8.4-inches.
When 2012 came around, the Express and Mainstreet trims were dropped, being replaced by the returning SE and SXT trims. This year also saw the American Value Package model join the line. This slots below the SE, and helps the vehicle come at a better price.
In 2013 and 2014, the Journey saw two trims join the lineup that gave the vehicle a better look. These trims were the Blacktop and the Journey Crossroads. These both added unique accents to the vehicle, as well as chrome trims to help make the vehicle standout.
The next set of changes came in 2016, and this saw the discontinuation of the AVP, and Limited trims. They did add the Crossroad Plus trim, helping build on what makes the trim great. The year after, the ST was renamed to the GT.
For the next few years, the lineup remained the same. While creeping on a decade old, this model hasn’t seen many upgrades, which at the time hurt it, but now works in its favor. The next, and last, changes the model saw were in 2020.
Being that it was the last year of its life, they really cut back on what was offered. In the SE and Crossroad trims, the Journey came powered by a 2.4L I4 engine, ditching the V6 option. The all-wheel drive option was also discontinued in this year, leaving behind a one configuration build. No matter which trim you get from this year, it came standard as a 7 seat configuration.
If you had lived in California previously, you couldn’t get your hands on a 2020 model, but as time went on, these opened up to the market, allowing you to finally get your hands on one. While this isn’t the greatest model on the market, it is still a reliable choice that comes with a few configurations, as well as decent mileage.
Is the Dodge Journey a good used car?
Yes, we think that the Journey is a good used car, while it didn’t have the most modern tech, and stayed mostly the same over the years, it came with a few configurations to pick from, helping you find exactly what you want.
