Moving to the generation that you are more likely to come across, this one is unique as it offers more than one engine to pick from. As we've already gone over one, we'll go over the others. The first engine is the 2.0L I4, and while it is the least efficient of the three, coming with an EPA rated 24 MPG combined. If you want the best fuel economy, then we recommend opting for the 1.6L I4. While it is a diesel option, it does come with an EPA rated 32 MPG combined, making it pretty noteworthy.
One area that makes this model standout for most drivers is that you can lay down the front seat completely flat. This allows you to carry items up to 8-feet long, so you won't need to get a truck when moving longer items.
Depending on the trim level, you'll find either a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen. The larger one is reserved for the higher-end trims, and it comes with an in-dash navigation system on the highest trim.
While the safety rating in 2018 left a bit to be desired, GMC rectified that in 2019. To do this, they added some new safety features such as adaptive cruise control, front pedestrian braking, and higher-resolution backup and 360-degree cameras. Thanks to this, the Terrain was able to capture the NHTSA's 5-star rating. In almost all metrics, the Terrain came with 5-star crash ratings, which means that you'll be safe in the event a collision does occur.
WIth the 2020 models, the diesel engine was discontinued. While this won't impact too many drivers, if diesel is your preferred fuel, then you'll want to look for models before this discontinuation.
2021 saw another hit to the engine lineup, this time it was the 2.0L I4. GMC noted that it was due to lack of interest, but as a side effect, the trailering package and trailer hitch were also removed. While not the strongest vehicle on the market, this model was able to tow at most 3,500-pounds, making this a surprising option for towing lightweight gear.
2024 did see a refresh, but it was mostly cosmetic, and due to the nature of the changes, we can't really do it justice, so we think it's better to come to our lot for a better look.
