Are you wanting a used Cadillac SUV but don’t know what to get? We want to help. We’ll be taking a look at some of the models that you will be likely to find on used lots, and give you some used Cadillac SUV buying tips to make sure that you get what you’re looking for.
Key takeaways
- The Cadillac SUV lineup comes with some electric options to pick from, giving you the choice between gas or electric engines.
- The most recent models will come with the massive 33-inch screen.
- The Optiq will be a good option for those who want size, and is environmentally friendly.
The Escalade is the oldest SUV in the Cadillac family, having been around since 1998, this continues to be the blueprint when it comes to luxury SUVs. In the most recent generation, you can find a massive 38-inch screen that spans across the dashboard.
Being that this is the largest SUV from Cadillac, they offer two engines that aim at efficiency. The standard one is a 6.2L V8 that can make 420 horsepower. When you’re cruising down the road and don’t need the most power, you can deactivate 4 cylinders to increase fuel economy. This gets you 16 MPG combined, as tested by the EPA. If you want the most fuel efficient engine, then you can look for the 3.0L diesel engine. This engine will get you 23 MPG combined, making it the best engine to get from this model.`
Escalade IQ
Being that the Escalade lacks a bit in fuel efficiency, they decided to bring out the IQ. While this one may be harder to find used being that it came out in 2024, as 2025 models, if you do find one, you can expect some great mileage. While there are no official numbers from the EPA, GM claims that this model can go 460 miles on a single charge.
If you find yourself needing to charge, then a fast charger will be your best bet. GM claims that you can get 100 miles of range on just a 10 minute charge, making it easy to get a quick boost when on the road. If you’re charging at home on a level 2 charger, you can get up to 36.5-miles of range on an hour of charge.
Lyriq
With Cadillac aiming for a greener future, the Lyriq is their first take on a fully electric vehicle. While the model has seen some change to the range of the vehicle, it wasn’t by much. If you’re looking for something that can go a decent distance on one charge, this is it, able to go 312-314 miles.
The Lyriq comes with the same great features that Cadillac is known for. It has a massive 33-inch screen that comes with phone connectivity, as well as standard wifi hotspot. Being that the engine is an electric one, it is pretty quiet already, but with some noise cancellation tech on the inside of the vehicle, it’s whisper quiet on the inside.
Optiq
Taking another shot at the battery powered vehicle market, this one captures the same greatness. While the range is a bit less at a GM claimed 300 miles, this one can go the distance. When you’re needing to charge, you can get 79 miles in just 10 minutes at a fast charger.
Like other newer models from the Cadillac lineup, it comes with a massive 33-inch screen. Car and Driver notes that “Optiq should be roomy enough for road-tripping” because the “space in both the front and back seats seems plenty comfortable for a quartet of adults”.
Going back to gas powered models, the XT4 is the one that starts it off. Coming with a 2.0L I4, this engine gets an EPA rated 26 MPG combined, able to go 413 miles on one tank. Earlier models that you’ll find are a lot like other vehicles on the market with nothing really standing out. This changed for the 2024 models, as this is when the massive 33-inch infotainment screen joined the lineup, ditching the 8-inch screen.
Being that this is the entry level to the XT line, this one comes with some interior looks that makes it feel bland. While not bad, you get what you pay for, and in this case, it’s great tech features. That being said, it is still a comfortable ride, perfect for a family vehicle for soccer moms.
XT5
Unlike most other models, this one comes with two engine options to pick from. Letting you choose between efficiency, or power. There’s the 2.0L I4 which joined in 2020, and the 3.6L V6, if you want the most mileage, then the 2.0L is for you, getting up to 456 miles of range. The 3.6L gets less range, but gets 310 horsepower. Being that this model was older for the SUV family, the earlier features lacked luster.
This model saw a new generation in 2024, and with it came some more modern features. This is where the massive screen joins the lineup, bringing it in line with other Cadillac models. This is also where semi-aniline leather for seating along with wood and aluminum trim joins the interior, making it luxurious. Some other tech features were added such as a wireless charger, and a 9.3-inch digital rearview mirror display.
This is the largest model in the XT series, and comes with seating for 7 passengers, with 6 passenger configurations offered. Much like the XT5, this one comes with the same two engines. If you’re wanting luxury size, without being too massive, this is the one for you.
If you find yourself looking at a sport, or premium luxury model, you’ll be able to enjoy genuine leather seats. If you’re looking for a gas powered model, that comes with some of the best features, then this will be a good option over the Escalade.
Which is the best option for me?
