The Buick Envision delivers some of the best features in the compact luxury SUV market. We’ll be taking a look at the generations this model has seen so you know what to look for in a used Buick Envision, and to see how they’ve changed over the years to see which year you should get, and which ones to avoid.
Key takeaways
- While the second generation does come with better mileage, the first generation isn’t far behind.
- No matter which trim you get, you’ll find that they come with some great features, making even the base trim a valuable option.
- There really is no bad year model throughout the life of the Envision, with the 2024 model being the most standout one thanks to its luxurious features.
Second Generation (2021-Present)
Being that this generation is a few years old, you will find some great features, regardless of year. When this generation came out, it was powered by a 2.0L I4 engine. This engine can produce 228 horsepower, and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes with some decent gas mileage, coming with an EPA rated 26 MPG combined.
Right out of the gate, the Envision comes with a ton of safety features. The ones that you can look for are a blind spot monitor, lane departure warning, and forward collision alert. For the first few years, you can find two different infotainment screen sizes. The smallest of the two is an 8-inch screen, while the largest is 10.2-inches.
Taking a look at the trims, the Essence trim brought some nice features: a power operated rear liftgate as well as heated front seats. But if you’re looking for the best features, then you’ll need to look for the Avenir. This trim comes with quilted leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats and a massaging driver's seat.
When 2024 came around, it brought some new features to the Envision. This year saw the addition of the 30-inch infotainment screen and the addition of a standard heads-up display on all trims. Other than that, it remained mostly the same.
First Generation (2016-2020)
Unlike the 2nd generation, this one came with two engine options, these engines being the 2.5L I4, and the 2.0L turbo I4. If you’re wanting more power, then you’ll want to look for a model that is equipped with the 2.0L. This will be able to get you 252 horsepower. If you’re wanting the best mileage, then you’ll want the 2.5L, this has an EPA rated 25 MPG combined.
No matter the trim you find, you can enjoy some great features. Starting with the base trim, you can find heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and remote start. Going up to the Essence trim, you can look for leather seats that are power operated and heated for both the front and the rear. The top of the line Premium trim adds even better features. These features are a head-up display, ventilated and cooled seats, and perforated leather upholstery.
Which is the best model to look for used?
We think that the 2024 models represent the best model to get. This is because it comes with some more luxury features across the board, but if you’re not worried about having the best features, then anything in the second generation would be good. This is due to it having better mileage than the generation before, but just barely.
